Res Urbanae, a look at cities under reconstruction
Résumé
What urban planning history do rebuilt cities represent? Can one ever consider the process of reconstruction as being fully completed? What challenges do these cities face today? What steps are they taking to enhance their image? This book is the fruit of the activities carried out during the Res Urbanae project, funded by the Creative Europe Programme (2022 - 2024). This project, which was initiated by the Maison de l'Allemagne in Brest (a citizens’ association for Franco-German cooperation), brought together three European universities (UBO Brest, TU Dresden and VUT Brno). This compendium is the result of a series of multi-disciplinary research projects and initiatives (an international symposium, an artist residency, student workshops, exhibitions). These activities have allowed us to revisit and deepen knowledge gathered over several decades on the subject of cities under reconstruction. Through the upheavals of their history, these cities have succeeded in reinventing new destinies for themselves.
