Chemical storage of hydrogen

Résumé

Hailed as a promising clean energy carrier, hydrogen has received significant attention as a potential solution to the world's energy challenges. However, its efficient storage remains a critical hurdle to its widespread adoption. Among various storage methods, the chemical storage of hydrogen in liquid and solid compounds has emerged as an attractive approach, offering advantages in terms of safety, energy density, and practicality. Liquids and solids may serve as effective mediums for storing hydrogen close to ambient conditions of pressure and temperature with the ability to densely pack hydrogen through chemical bonding. These storage materials can be broadly categorized into liquid hydrogen carriers, metallic hydrides and chemical hydrides This contribution provides a glimpse into materials and processes for the chemical hydrogen storage in liquids and solids. In this exploration, we delve deeper into the principles, advancements, challenges, and potential applications of these innovative storage methods, paving the way for a sustainable hydrogen economy.
