Since the 1970s, several Olympic-themed video games have emerged: while early titles were rudimentary clones of the famous Pong, later ones contributed to the development of a distinct genre, now in decline. With the success of sports video games and the development of Los Angeles 1984’s private Games, the first official partnerships between video games and Olympics Games came to fruition: the present article aims to study the relationship between these two spheres, by tracing the course of their successive interactions, from the video gamification of the Olympic Games to the olympification of video games. It examines the shared goals and interests at the heart of such an association, and also questions its limitations, by raising ethical, pragmatic, and strategic concerns, all of which echo the contradictions of the Olympic movement already identified at other scales.

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
