Farmers Empowerment? Connecting Agricultural Entrepreneurship to Citizen Participation in Post-Revolution Rural Tunisia

Résumé

The research investigates the extent to which agricultural entrepreneurship resources, as integral components of citizen empowerment programs, can foster farmers’ citizen participation within a rural post-revolutionary context. Employing a qualitative approach, the study assesses the impact of a citizen empowerment program, called the Youth Empowerment and Sustainability Program, sponsored by the United Nations Democracy Fund and implemented in rural post-revolution Tunisia from 2017 to 2021. The study's findings reveal that the observed levels of farmers’ citizen participation remain moderate as a result of to certain limitations and inefficiencies within the program's entrepreneurial resources and the specific barriers to entrepreneurship and citizen participation in the rural post-revolution Tunisia.
