Vehicles with internal combustion engines have long been known to be significant sources of environmental pollution since they release hazardous pollutants and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The introduction of electric vehicles (EVs) presents a viable remedy to these environmental issues by reducing the damaging effects of transportation on the environment. This chapter of the book looks at the negative effects that internal combustion engine cars have on pollution in the environment and how EVs can be a sustainable alternative. The chapter opens with a review of the environmental effects of regular vehicles, emphasizing how moving to electric vehicles (EVs) is an essential first step in combating climate change and enhancing air quality.
