Analysis of the mapped digital practices of six engineering consultancies specialising in non-standard facade design
Analyse des pratiques numériques cartographiées de six bureaux d’études spécialistes de la conception de façades non-standards
Résumé
The digitalisation of the construction industry and the development of new digital practices such as parametric design and Building Information Model/Modeling/Management (BIM) have prompted recent studies focusing on the current architectural practices. These studies do not cover the full range of practices of the project stakeholders, especially the engineering consultancies which are more involved in construction and engineering approaches, in the context of non‐standard projects. What practices can be identified in the workflow of these engineering consultancies ? How do non‐standard projects influence the development of digital workflow ? The authors propose to address these questions by focusing on the digital practices of six engineering consultancies specializing in the design of non‐standard façades, using a qualitative study based on semi‐directive interviews. This approach enables us to describe the articulation of the digital practices used in these consultancies, to highlight their position in the design process and to identify the way they contribute to the circulation of the information between the project stakeholders at different stages of the project.
