MECHASOUNDS: THE SOUND OF MECHANICS

Abstract

Mechasounds is an interactive sound installation which makes audible properties of microscopic elements, measured by Atomic Force Microscopy, a scientific tool to explore the nanometric world. This project was initiated by two research teams at DyNaMo and GMEM as a proposal for interaction between fundamental research and sound creation, following a research-action methodology. This work intends to show our trans-disciplinary approach for exploring new scientific dissemination tools and the work achieved as a successful collaboration between researchers and artists in an open science context.
