« Christopher Tolkien, interpreter and creator: the map of Middle-earth »
Résumé
"As the initials ‘CJRT’ on the left below the compass rose remind us, the map of
Middle-earth on which this carpet is based was drawn by Christopher Tolkien. The third
son of J.R.R. Tolkien, then in his thirties, he drew it for the fi rst edition of The Lord of the Rings, published in 1954-1955. This map, presented here in a spectacular version,
is a remarkable example of the special nature of the four-handed work carried out by
J.R.R. and Christopher Tolkien. The latter appears both as an interpreter of his father’s
work and as a creator."
