Cirques, zoos, laboratoires et élevages industriels : libérer les animaux ? (Yves Bichet, Olivia Rosenthal, Isabelle Sorrente)

Résumé

Animal studies dates back to the 1970s, with the publication of the first philosophical works on animal rights and animal liberation. Faced with the premise of human exceptionalism, the animal occupies a subordinate position and finds itself in a material and ontological relation-ship of dependence, far from any autonomy. To emancipate itself, the animal must break free from historical domination and the cultural constraints that weigh on its condition. The article aims at examining how the novels of Yves Bichet (La part animale), Isabelle Sorrente (180 jours) and Olivia Rosenthal (Que font les rennes après Noël ?) which can be categorized as “agri-food fictions” (Anne Simon) tackle the question of the animal condition through the repre-sentation of a wide range of places of exploitation or confinement practices, in order to raise questions about animal ethics that go beyond the literalness of the slogan “free the animals”.
