The historian and the disappearance of architecture
The absence and disappearance of the studied architectures place the architectural historian in a comparable situation to that of historians of the other fields of history studying invisible objects and historical facts. However the disappearance of the object of study have scientific consequences for the historic science. Besides the study of all the representations of architecture that allows new points of views on architecture, the study remotely architecture mandated by his physical absence has nourished approximations, errors and superficial interpretations. Generally historical analyzes justify the heritage process to the point of becoming a bulwark against destruction. The mandatory nature of the material existence of the architecture for the construction of a scientific history of architecture gives another meaning to the social involvement of the historian in the struggle for the maintenance of built substance of the architectures he studies. The issue of disappearance allows to develop an epistemological perspective on the scientific implications of the disappearance of the architecture.
