The Zentralpolizeistelle Luxemburg: An unknown intelligence issue in Luxembourg during World War 1

Résumé

During World War 1, Luxembourg had not yet developed any system of intelligence, or any protection against espionage, in order to protect its neutrality. Luxembourg employed espionage on the eve of the First World War, but it was the German Army that provided the country with an intelligence corps, under the application of military police forces, the Geheime Feldpolizei (1914-1915) and the Zentralpolizeistelle (1915-1918). Both worked on counter-intelligence in Luxembourg. Without the post-war commemoration of their work as revealed in the Luxembourg press, their actions would have been forgotten, and in any case, they were limited and never prevented Allied intelligence activities or local demonstrations.
