Stones go away but don’t get lost.

Résumé

Through the biography of a particular stone in its living context, this text explores lithic encounters in the Bolivian region of Northern Potosí. The biographical perspective makes it possible to show that the region’s inhabitants view Misa Qala as part of an ecosystem of relations that is not exclusively human. This text will consider the stone’s various displacements, the manifestations of its subjectivity, and finally its social relations. It will show that the action of stones can be independent of human manipulations. Humans and stones do not share the same pace of life. This text will also propose new understandings of territory as created through interpenetration of space, time, and human and non-human agencies.
