Clean energy and environement in Southeast Asia

Résumé

This session of the YSEALI Academy's Flagship Seminar 2021 focused on Clean energy in ASEAN, highlighting the current status and potential for renewable energy within ASEAN countries, with a target of reaching 23% renewable energy in total primary energy supply by 2025. The seminar addressed the diverse potential of renewable resources across the region, noting the significant investment in renewable energy despite its small fraction of current capacity. Case studies included offshore wind in Vietnam, biofuels in Indonesia, and solar energy in Singapore. The presentations emphasized the importance of renewables in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and discussed the various stages of development for renewable technologies such as hydro, geothermal, solar PV, and wind within ASEAN countries. The seminar concluded by looking at the renewable energy policies in place, the economic incentives, and the need for sustainability and marine protection laws to support the growth of renewables.
