This research aims to examine the notion of lexicopragmatic competence, a key notion in the study of the use of pragmatic phraseologisms. In order to illustrate this competence, we propose a case study focusing on the use of pragmatic phraseologisms with an expressive function c'est pas gagné! This case study is a linguistic test submitted to 35 advanced Japanese speakers of French. The analysis of the results reported in this case study will allow us to have a better understanding of the functioning of lexicopragmatic competence. On the other hand, it will allow us to determine the difficulties encountered by non-native speakers when using pragmatic phraseologisms in everyday conversation.
