Résumé

EGNOS is the European SBAS and provides corrections and integrity information to GPS L1 C/A civilian signals for positioning and navigation applications over Europe. In particular, integrity information is provided as part of the EGNOS Safety of Life (SoL) service to meet the demands of safety-critical applications in the civil aviation sector requiring enhanced and guaranteed performance to GPS standalone positioning solutions. The European Commission is defining the evolutions of the EGNOS programme, including new services of EGNOS. One potential evolution could lead to the provision of an EGNOS service tailored to liability and payment-critical applications for road users and specifically to Pay As You Drive (PAYD) and Pay How You Drive (PHYD) applications. The existing solutions in these markets, already benefiting from EGNOS Open Service (OS) and EGNOS Data Access Service (EDAS), cannot fully exploit the level of confidence of the EGNOS corrections provided by the EGNOS Safety Of Life (SoL) service. In fact, the commitment offered by EGNOS service provider for the use of EGNOS Safety Of Life (SoL) messages is tailored to the aviation environment, which is less constraining than the road one. In this context, the EPICURE project (EGNOS Payment lIability Critical applications for users in Road insurancE) aims at: •defining an integrity concept considering specific constrained environments applicable to road users •defining an EGNOS service to efficiently support these applications, which rely on how much, where, when and how the road user drives. The paper describes the EPICURE project and some of its results in terms of: •Proposed integrity concept, considering fusion of potential EGNOS new service information with other sensors (IMU, odometers) •Proposed EGNOS service supporting this integrity concept, ensuring integrity commitments in the pseudo-range domain •Experimentation data collection performed in different road environments (e.g. semi-urban, canopy, tunnels, urban canyons).
