Kaokoland Cascade Tufa Survey – 2023 Research
Résumé
The ongoing Kaokoland Cascade Tufa Survey aims to identify and document all the tufa
occurrences in the Kunene Region of Northern Namibia. Documentation of the tufas represents a
preliminary stage in the long term study of the deposits from palaeontological, archaeological,
palaeoclimatic, geomorphological, taphonomic and biogeochemical perspectives. Twenty tufa
occurrences have already been described in Kaokoland (and seven in the Naukluft Mountains) and this
report adds a further 9 examples in Kaokoland. It is clear from examination of satellite imagery that, in
the Kunene region, many more tufa deposits remain to be explored.
