Developing Eurasia : how China “acts” to build cooperative contexts and infrastructures

Béatrice Majza

Abstract

« The Belt and Road Initiative » (BRI), developed since 2013 by Xi Jinping, is part of the overall « Chinese Dream », policy desired by the the President of China, apointed since 2012 and aiming to increase China’s place on the world. The BRI is an ambitious project for the construction of ports, rails and lands infrastructures in the Eurasian region, allowing China to source its raw materials and offer it new outlets for a Chinese industry in a situation of industrial overcapacity.

But what is the exact scope of this major project initiated by China ? Will this initiative be diplomatically and economically beneficial for its partner countries ? Is this a new tool for restructuring the international economy or a way for China to assert its supremacy over global governance ?
