EFFECTS OF FEEDBACK TYPES ON THE PERCEIVED VALUE OF PARTICIPANTS' EXPERIENCE OF GAMIFIED CROWDSOURCING IN LOSS SITUATIONS
EFFETS DES TYPES DE FEEDBACK SUR LA VALEUR PERÇUE DE L'EXPERIENCE DES PARTICIPANTS AU CROWDSOURCING GAMIFIE EN SITUATION DE PERTE
Abstract
Despite the growing trend towards gamification in crowdsourcing, there are constraints on the organizers of crowdsourcing campaigns that make the use of specific game mechanics difficult and costly, as they have a significant influence on the behavior of contributors and their engagement, such as the feedback provided by the platform on the relevance and quality of the submitted proposals. Therefore, by focusing on the loss of a gamified crowdsourcing campaign and by means of an experiment with 175 individuals, this research shows that (1) the loss of a crowdsourcing contest reduces the perceived value of the participation experience of the contributors and (2) the presence of task-motivation feedback and or task- learning feedback enables to absorb and attenuate the negative influence of the loss on the experience's value.
