Prehistoric archaeology and geology, a historical perspective
Résumé
This paper examines the role played by Geology in the constitution of Prehistoric Archaeology as a scientific discipline. Geology was a tool for the establishment of its evidence, and a scientific model whose concepts, vocabulary and onomastics were directly imported from one discipline into the other. Despite the limits of its usage as sole evidence, Geology remains until today an irreplaceable companion to prehistoric archaeological research.
