Six-port Technology for Passive Millimeter-wave Identification Systems

Résumé

In this paper, the performance of a conical horn antenna combined with converging lenses, over a 60 GHz millimeter-wave line-of-sight (LOS) wireless link, is experimentally investigated. In this context, the transformation optics concept is employed by placing plano-convex (PCX) and bi-convex (BCX) lenses a short distance from the aperture of a transmitting antenna in order to boost the gain and, accordingly, the overall dynamic range of the system. In fact, an increase in the received power of approximately 7.3 dB with the PCX lens is achieved, whereas the BCX lens has increased the received power of about 14.7 dB, compared to the reference case in which both lenses have not been employed.
