Résumé

The use of Internet of Things (IoT) is becomingincreasingly common in agribusiness to increase food productioncapacity for the expanding global population. Recently, low-powerwide-area networks (LPWANs) have been used in the developmentof IoT applications that require low power consumption and lowdata transmission rates. LoRaWAN is considered the mostsuitable communication network for LPWANs for IoTapplications in smart agriculture. In this paper, we present an in-depth study of the performance of the LoRaWAN communicationnetwork in the context of an IoT application for a pilot farm. Weconsider several scenarios and analyze simulation results by usingNetwork Simulator 3. We then propose a mathematical model thatprecisely predicts the successful packet delivery rate for this typeof network considering the number of nodes and the transmissioninterval duration. Finally, we validate the results of our model bycomparing them with other simulation results under differentscenarios.
