Review Report - Fourth Quarter 2023: Analysis and Design of Spatial Mechanisms of Tensegrity for Collaborative Manipulation

Résumé

Tensegrity mechanisms are known for their ability to adjust cable tension, providing rigidity and stability. However, in some cases their structure can become more complex. This article presents the kinematic, static and stability analysis of a new perspective of a three-degrees-of-freedom (3-DOF) spatial mechanism. The mechanism uses a simple architecture of bars, cables, platforms and spherical joints, making it lightweight and suitable for integration into a stack of robot designs. Analysis in three dimensional space with fixed internal degrees of freedom reveals instability. It is concluded that the addition of a new cable between the centres of the platforms and the adjustment of its tension is necessary to ensure stability, especially during rotation against gravity.
