How to organize the openness: a firm approach

This paper contributes to recent work on the structural modalities of Open Innovation by addressing the "how to do it " necessary for a better understanding of this paradigm (Huizingh, 2010). It focuses on two different technological and economic contexts. Indeed, as indicated by Li-Ying and Wang (2014), the Open Innovation model, highlighted in seminal work on Western firms, requires further study in order to better understand its application in high-growth emerging countries. Our article is situated in this perspective with the objective of comparing the implementation of inside-out and outside-in processes in the differentiated contexts of French and Chinese companies. In other words, our research question is "what are the strategic and structural issues for inside-out and outside-in practices via IPRs in differentiated contexts?
