Coach And Train: Differences In Individuals Perception Of These Modes

Résumé

This presentation aims to understand the perception of train and coach modes for medium and long distance travels that may influence their use. Beyond the criteria of performance and travel cost, our hypothesis is that there are other more subjective criteria related to travel emotions or sensory aspects that might explain the differences of perception. Based on the results of both a qualitative and quantitative surveys of regional travels, it analyses the influence of social characteristics, geographical living environment, past experiences of public transport modes and effective travel uses on the image of these modes. It provides some interesting teachings for transport authorities about the influence of modes perception on modal change predisposition.
