Euroscepticism and Irish political parties

Résumé

This paper evaluates whether or not Irish party positions on the EU have changed as a consequence of successive crises affecting the Irish-EU relationship. It look at the financial crisis, the bail-out programme and the austerity measures in Ireland; it looks at Ireland's response to EU developments in realtion to the migration crisis; and it explores party political reactions to the Brexit crisis affecting the EU and the island of Ireland. In particular, it seeks to evaluate why these crises have not (as they did in other EU states) led to a significant growth in eurosceptic attitudes in Ireland, and assesses the limits of Irish Europeanism.
