Tuning the cutting conditions on a machining transfer line using fuzzy constraint propagation
Résumé
The attractiveness of fuzzy set-based methods, and especially fuzzy arithmetic is shown on a technological problem: that of tuning the feed and cutting speed of a machine-tool for the proper performance of metal-cutting operations. A method for simultaneous tuning of machine-tools in a synchronized transfer line is described. Fuzzy arithmetic makes it possible to delay as long as necessary the assignment of precise values to parameters. The feasibility analysis is carried out once for all, from fuzzy-valued cutting parameters reflecting subjective preferences. The procedure eventually converges to a trade-off between the quality of cutting and the consistency of the tool-replacement policy, under the synchronization constraint. The advantages of the proposed methodology are its computational efficiency and its ability for handling different sources of knowledge.
