Keynote. Renewable Energy Forecasting – State of the art, highlight results of Smart4RES and future directions.

Résumé

Renewable energy (RES) forecasting of the power output of wind and solar power plants for the next minutes to days ahead has been a very active research field internationally since the mid ‘80s. RES forecasts are needed for an efficient integration of renewables in power systems and electricity markets. In this talk we will present an outlook of the evolution of the state of the art, followed by the final highlight results obtained in the frame of the European project Smart4RES. Finally, we will conclude with a proposal of research priorities for the future of renewable energy forecasting.
