Entropy fluctuation in the inner region of a strongly stratified convective flow
Abstract
The video was produced using the AC50 simulation from Kessar and al, APJ 2019 (10.3847/1538-4357/ab07bf). The simulation is dealing with anelastic convection between two infinite parallel planes.
The video represents the evolution of an horizontal slice of entropy fluctuations at depth z=0.1. At this depth, the convective cells are hard to identify, as the turbulence is much stronger than near the surface. This being said, the authors have shown, using kinetic energy spectrum, that the most energetic scale was the same at every depth through the convective domain.
