Lessons from a New Experience
Résumé
The students’ groups, composed of different disciplines and nationalities, were therefore assigned topics likely to answer both above mentioned prerequisites. For the two HOH school editions reported here, twelve topics were proposed, in order to combine the scientific research and heritage management and development angles of reflection. These topics cover two main categories, i.e. (i) heritage and society and (ii) science and prehistory, and a complementary one is a pioneer methodological approach regards the collection and management of data (implemented with elementary school pupils). The diversity of backgrounds among the students, the different generations of local participants, were expected to create an opportunity for much creativity and a higher quality of the exploration. Each topic was designed after discussion among the multi-disciplinary teaching staff of UKSW and MNHN. Members of the teaching staff, curators from the Sangiran Conservation Office, young researchers from Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional, a French rescue archaeologist and an archaeologist from the local government of Sragen acted as group supervisors. Each group of students and local participants (members of the Pokdarwis Wonderful Sangiran and YGC, knowing that the group working with elementary school collaborated with local school pupils and teachers also) was assigned two supervisors, including one specialized in prehistory or archaeology.
