Circulations, Mobilities and Migrants’ Networks in the Mediterranean Region».
Résumé
My work began with an observation: the study of migratory facts in the Mediterranean region reveals a lack of attention to the coexistence, overlap and entanglement of different forms of migration stemming from slavery, colonialism, urbanization and industrialization. Despite the variety of migratory flows in the Mediterranean region, migration has long been perceived as a consequence of the demands of industrial capitalism after WWII. The studies have often focused on the image of the male immigrant working in the industrial sector. In this communication 1) I reconstruct the socio-cultural dynamics linked to the processes of widening and diversification of population movements around the Mediterranean since the 1970s; 2) I examine the interweaving of emigration and immigration, internal and international migration, and transit migration and political migration. I argumente that The mobility has structured the different Mediterranean societies.
