Timelapse: Crystal growth during setting of gypsum plaster, observed through in-cell environmental SEM (without any setting retardant)
The setting reaction of gypsum plaster occurs through a dissolution – precipitation process. The nucleation and crystal growth of calcium sulfate dihydrate crystals was observed in operando using a specific environnemental cell for SEM observation (in presence of citric acid as a retarder).
