Evaluation of ergonomic interventions: combining realist evaluation and approach to the experience of the protagonists of the intervention to better understand complex and organizational interventions

Résumé

Often, systematic literature reviews of ergonomics programs are not able to report on the organizational intervention processes implemented and the contexts in which they are carried out. However, progressing in the knowledge of interventions implies answering this question: What types of intervention produce what types of effects, in what circumstances and for what types of actors? While the realistic evaluation approach seems very relevant, some authors note the difficulties of its operationalization and therefore the effort required. A major difficulty, widely noted, lies in the characterization of the “mechanism” component of the Context-Mechanism-Outcomes configurations. The presentation will propose another configuration following the original perspective of realistic evaluation, where details on Processus are necessary, where experience could be used to characterize the mechanisms and theory of the intervention, and where changes in configuration during the same intervention would be analyzed (PCMO-E: Processus Context Mechanism Outcomes and Experience).
