This article is devoted to the study of the relationship between engagement andsociological knowledge, in the field of research relevant to gender and feminism. Moreexactly, the question concerns the heuristic and cognitive functions of utopia. Firstly, theauthor introduces some of the most significant works on the subject. Then, he tries to cla-rify the cognitive virtues of the feminist utopia for a better understanding of gender, sexdifference and male domination. The conclusion reconsiders the epistemological andmethodological implications of the study
