Spanish in France

Espagnol en France

Résumé

There are very few studies available regarding the contact between Spanish and French, and save for those, one could say that everything remains to be done. This is why the work we present here can only be a partial approach, based on the contact variety of speakers of Spanish origin in France through data collected in the FRESCO corpus. What's more, we will focus on morphosyntactic and lexical contact phenomena, touching only briefly in passing on phonetic and phonological issues. Needless to say that this aspect, as well as the contact varieties spoken by Latin American speakers in France, should be integrated to future studies . In this chapter, we will dedicate a brief introduction to the history of the Spanish presence in France, in order to better understand the sociolinguistic background in which this contact variety has developed (§1). In (§2), we introduce the source of the data we describe and analyze in (§3). We close the chapter with a short conclusion (§4) and a reference list (§5).
