              <p>A traffic simulation model has been developed by IRT and ORION, in order to study the effectiveness of different traffic organization schema proposed by the maritime world for the English Channel since the grounding of Amoco Cadiz.After a short description of the basin principles of this model, as well as the shore based radar screen simulator issued from it, three criteria for safety evaluation (encounter situation, maneuver and maneuvering room) are developed.In the end an application to two schemes, the actual one, and a new one actually in discussion in IMCO, shows the main results obtainable by such a model.</p>

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>Un modèle de simulation du trafic maritime en Manche et dans le Pas-de-Calais a été mis au point par l'IRT et ORION, en particulier pour évaluer les différentes organisations du trafic proposées pour cette zone depuis le naufrage de l'Amoco Cadiz.Après une brève description des principes de bases de ce modèle, ainsi que du programme de visualisation auquel il conduit, les trois critères d'évaluation de la sécurité de la navigation (situations de rencontre, manœuvres d'évitement et plages de manœuvres) sont développés.Ensuite l'application de ce modèle au schéma d'organisation du trafic actuellement en vigueur en Manche, ainsi qu'à une nouvelle organisation actuellement en cours d'adoption par l'OMCI montre les principaux résultats que l'on peut attendre d'un tel modèle.</p>
