The studies collected in this volume concern the process of exegesis and transformation of Aristotle's works on the cosmos and the sublunar world, from the imperial and late antique schools to the medieval commentaries.
Through the translations of authentic works, spurious works, and late antique commentaries, the philosophers in the Arab and the Latin Middle Ages forged the idea that Aristotle had constituted a complete system of knowledge, based on demonstrative procedures and the subordination of the sciences: in the physical sciences, the De Caelo is subsumed under the Physics, the Meteora under the De Caelo. It is the pre-modern cosmos that is thus delineated, and the studies collected explore its problems and influence.
