Disclosing Alzheimer’s disease: Why and how?
Annoncer une maladie d’Alzheimer : pourquoi et comment ?
Résumé
The disclosure of an Alzheimer's disease differs from other situations of serious disease disclosure, because "Alzheimer" does not cover the same reality for the researcher, the clinician and the layman. Based on a review of scientific uncertainties and representations of the disease, we will examine the "why" and "how" of the disclosure. It can be seen as a rite of passage, which will allow an explicitation of the difficulties encountered, and apromise of support. As a critical moment in the history of the disease, the announcement is both a threat and an opportunity for the person's autonomy.
