Politiques de l'autorité biblique. Bossuet, Machon
Résumé
The bishop of Meaux and Louis Machon are two witnesses of a logic of political exploitation of the Bible in the 17th century, the specificity of which we try to grasp in this article with the help of the notion of authority. The Bible is an authority, the Bible speaks of authority: this double relationship, which conditions the reference of which it is the object, invites us to bring together these two ecclesiastics that everything opposes and allows us to put into perspective the uses that the political literature of the 17th century makes of the biblical text.
