Compiling a multilingual phraseological dictionary
Résumé
The best way to render the representation of phraseological units for dictionary use systematic is in digital format. A computer-based phraseological dictionary could reconcile the complex nature of phraseological units and would be easier to use than an equivalent dictionary in paper format. Such a digital dictionary would not be subject to the limitations of linear presentation, nor would it be susceptible to overload. The more languages the dictionary compares, the more complex the system for presenting entries. The rules for the presentation of units must be strict: in addition to meaning, etymology and examples, it is also necessary to consider the use and imagery which the simple nominee of language has from a phraseological unit.
