A microservice migration approach to controlling latency in 5G/6G networks
Résumé
The microservice paradigm is widely adopted in the design of Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs). Still, 5G/6G networks require to carefully orchestrate the allocation and rearrangement of (micro)services to avoid a largely segmented solution space while services arrive and leave the network. To support latency-effective service provisioning, we introduce a novel placement and migration strategy that chooses the microservice(s) to migrate and selects the optimal destination (data center) while considering the impact of the migration on other microservices. For this purpose, we devise fast and effective heuristics and we implement a prototype that maps the service in the deployment field. Extensive simulations show our proposed approach significantly reduces the service latency.
