L'enseignement du latin, bien plus qu'un cours de grammaire
Résumé
This paper will consider two very distinct sets of glosses: on the one hand, the glosses on Priscian's Ars grammatica and, on the other hand, the one based on Orose's Historiae adversus paganos. These two texts benefited from an early circulation in Celtic circles, or more widely qualified as Insular, before being diffused in Carolingian Europe. In both cases, the continental manuscript traditions were marked by models commonly described as “insular exemplars”.
The comparative study of these two glossographic sets aims at demonstrating that 1) learning Latin from Classics texts (or post-classical texts) goes far beyond a purely technical teaching; 2) in spite of different disciplines, the interest of glossers converges in order to provide the broadest possible cultural background.
