Chapter 3 - Arts, culture and neoliberalism: instrumentalization and resistances through the case of Marseille
Résumé
Mobilising a methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative resources among which discourse analyses , photographs, and questionnaires , we will develop our discussion in two distinctive parts. The first one will focus on the progressive instrumentalization of arts and creativity by local decision-makers or urban planners, showing – thanks to the first two study cases -, how such urban policies and strategies can increase urban neoliberalism. Then, the second part will present the last two study cases with the ambition of demonstrating what are the artistic resistance movements in Marseille and why they constitute the proof of a claim for a new right to the creative city.
