169 DEUX APPLIQUES DE SELLE POST-HUNNIQUE PROVENANT DE JALPUG (DELTA DU DANUBE) : PARALLELES ET DATATION
Résumé
This study is devoted to saddle plates discovered in Jalpug, near the mouth
of the Danube. The examination of their parallels and their dating shows that
Jalpug's saddle plates belong to an oriental type, existing exclusively in Eastern
Europe (Volga, Urals, North Caucasus, Crimea), above all in the nomadic steppes,
from the middle of the 5th century. The richness of the tomb and the high quality of
the work show that these items imply a "princely" rank and they were probably
produced in Byzantine workshops. This discovery may be ascribed to Huns, more
precisely to survivors of "Attila’s Empire", or to Bulgarians.
