              <p>Towing tank experiments are conducted to investigate the interaction between co-rotating vortices shed in the wake of a wing model in high-lift configuration. Detailed characteristics on the dynamics of this system can be found in the literature for analytical and numerical works or in experiments where the vortex generators have been simplified. However, few experimental validation exists in scenarios closer to the full-scale application where the trailing vortices are generated by wings. Furthermore the question on the behavior of multipolar wakes in configurations close to landing/take-off relates to that of the wake control strategies to reduce wake hazard. In this work, a NACA 4412 rectangular wing creates a span-wise load variation by twisting a specific inboard section to represent a high-lift geometry. The development of the vortex wake is investigated through SPIV measurements from the roll-up stage up to 60 spans downstream at a chord based Reynolds number of Re c = 10 5. The co-rotating vortex pair in the nearfield is analyzed and the criterion of fusion onset is found to depend on the vortices strength ratio going from ∼ 0.26 to ∼ 0.3 in symmetric and asymmetric pairs respectively. Downstream from the fusion event, vortex characteristics such as radius, circulation and swirl number are computed.</p>

            <abstract xml:lang="fr">
              <p>Des expériences au canal hydrodynamique de l'ONERA Lille sont conduites pour étudier l’interaction d'une paire co-rotative de tourbillons de sillage générés par une aile en configuration hypersustentée. Des caractérisations détaillées de la dynamique d'une telle paire de tourbillons est disponible dans des études analytiques et numériques, ou dans des expériences ou les générateurs de tourbillons on été simplifiés. Cependant, peu de validation expérimentale existe pour les cas plus représentatifs des applications commerciales, où les tourbillons sont générés par une aile. Le comportement de sillages multipolaires dans des configurations représentatives de atterrissage/décollage renvoi à la question des stratégies de contrôle fluidique pour réduire le danger associé aux sillages tourbillonnaires. Le cas de référence est une aile droite rectangulaire NACA4412. Un deuxième modèle est une variation de la référence où un angle de vrillage a été ajouté à une région spécifique de l'intrados. En plus des tourbillons principaux issus du bout d'aile, ceci introduit des tourbillons additionnels en aval. Des expériences sont réalisées à un nombre de Reynolds (basé sur la corde) de Re_c = 10^5 pour étudier le développement du sillage tourbillonnaire jusqu'à 60 envergures en aval de l'aile. Une évaluation de la paire co-rotative dans le sillage proche est menée par le biais de mesures SPIV dans une section du sillage. Le critère pour le déclenchement de la fusion des tourbillons est dépendant de leur rapport de circulations et évolue de 0.26 à 0.3 dans des paires symétriques et asymétriques respectivement.</p>
