Caractérisation des foyers préhistoriques : apport de la susceptibilité magnétique et de la micromorphologie des sols (Orgnac 3, Lazaret et Abri Pataud, France)

Résumé

The role of fire played an important in the socialisation of prehistoric life. The many pedological and sedimentary features related to fire make it possible to better understand its operation. The older the site, the more difficult the description of the prehistoric hearths. For better understanding of the evolution of the hearths two complementary but different methods; the magnetic susceptibility and the micromorphology were used for three paleolithic sites of the south ofFrance: Orgnac 3, Lazaret and Abri Pataud. At the two first sites the application of the above mentioned methods, confirmed the presence of the hearths. With regards to the third site, in spite of the presence of charcoal and burned bones, magnetic susceptibility indicates traces of fire in certain zones, whereas in others the traces are not very evident. These results indicate that in the case of Orgnac 3 and Lazaret the hearths were in situ, with little disturbance and in a well conserved state, and the reworking of the hearths in Abri Pataud.
