An approach to the Quina variability. Contributions of techno-functional analysis to understanding the diversity of Quina type industries: the case of Le Fond des Blanchards at Gron (France)
Résumé
This paper focuses on characterisation of the toolkit of Le Fond des Blanchards – level C (Burgundy, France). This industry has been qualified, on techno-typological criteria, as “Quina type Mousterian”, as it was described in Southwest of France. The scrapers from level C are often produced by very invasive retouch, organised in superimposed rows. Nevertheless, they seem to be different from “Quina type” tools from Southwest of France. The techno-functional analysis of a sample of scrapers from level C, highlights the originality of this assemblage: in a general context of similarity in blank production with Quina south-western industries, the Le Fond des Blanchards – level C production objectives seem to be more varied and the construction of tools leads to the realisation of very different techno-types of quite functionally precise scrapers.
