Production and quality assurance of scintillating fibre mats for the LHCb tracker upgrade
Résumé
The SciFi Tracker The LHCb detector will be upgraded during the second Long Shutdown of the LHC in order to cope with the increased instantaneous luminosity and data taking at a 40 MHz rate using a trigger-less readout system. The current tracking subsystems , the inner and outer tracker positioned before and after the LHCb dipole magnet are unable to support the increased occupancy. They will be replaced by the upstream and the Scintillating Fibre (SciFi) trackers, composed respectively of high-granularity silicon micro-strip planes and scintillating fibres read out by silicon photomultipliers (SiPM). The SiPM technology was proposed by EPFL.
