La production céramique du Rubané de la vallée de l'Aisne: état des lieux

Résumé

Abstract This article presents a short overview of the pottery from the earliest neolithic settlements in the river Aisne valley (Aisne département, Picardy, France), dating to the Paris basin late Bandkeramik, at around 5000 cal. BC. With over three thousand identified vessels, the corpus of pottery is one of the largest currently available for the later stages of the Bandkeramik in west-central Europe. Most of the ceramic finds come from the lateral pits of longhouses, a context that offers the advantage of reflecting production and consumption of pottery by a household over a relatively short timespan. The ceramics can be divided into three main categories: decorated and undecorated fine wares, and coarse ware with temper. So-called Limburg pottery is also present in small quantities. The main technological and morphological characteristics of the ceramics are outlined. Some comments are also made about chronological variation in decoration, as well as the relative frequency of the various categories of pottery.
