Electro-Fenton process in combination with other advanced oxidation processes: Challenges and opportunities

Résumé

Combination of electro-Fenton (EF) process with other advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) is found very much effective for water and wastewater treatment. The combined processes including sono-EF (SEF), photo-EF (PEF), electro-peroxone, ferrate-EF and EF combined with persulfate oxidation allow enhancing the mineralization efficiency of treatment as well as reducing operational cost and toxicity of treated wastewater. Even though, there are several advantages in combined processes, they also present some disadvantages such as increased side reactions, increased energy requirement etc., which are challenges to overcome.
