An Egg Parasitoid in the Oak Processionary Moth Management
Résumé
The oak processionary moth (Thaumetopoea processionea L. (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) is a major pest of oak in many countries. The larvae of the oak processionary moth cause severe defoliation, reducing the viability of oak trees. It also has negative effects on human health, organisms and environment. Chemical control being risky, it is now prohibited in many countries, in forests, parks and gardens… For this reason, environmentally compatible methods of control should be preferred. One of these methods is biological control. Egg parasitoids are among the most used beneficial insects in biological control. Parasitoids of the genus Ooencyrtus are natural, frequent and effective egg parasitoids of T. pityocampae and T. processionea.
